Classes

Tiny Tots

This is a fun dance class for children from the age of 3, teaching the basic techniques of ballet and modern dance through music mime and imagination. A perfect starting point for progressing into any form of dance.

Classical Ballet

Once children start school, they start working towards their first ISTD ballet syllabus.  Children then progress through the ISTD grades.  Ballet will consistently improve a child’s posture, co-ordination and develop their sense of performance.

Modern & Tap

Once children reach Year 1 at school, pupils are given the opportunity to explore a new range of steps with the ISTD tap & modern syllabus.  Tap and Modern dance offers a more relaxed and freer style of dance movement, allowing children to develop their rhythm and musicality.

Jazz

Available to students aged 12 and over.  We teach the ISTD Jazz Awards along with our own freework.  These are fun and exciting classes developing strength, flexibility and style.

Hip-Hop

Free class for enjoyment – no exam.
Tiffany Lewis achieved a full scholarship at Urdang Dance Academy, and danced with some leading Hip-Hop choreographers.

Drama & Singing

Two former students of Danceworks, Nicole Wooldridge and Emma Garrett run the Drama & Singing workshops.  These workshops are aiming to create a well-rounded performer, increasing self esteem and confidence whether for pure enjoyment or in preparation for a future in performing arts.

Adult Classes

We have a wide range of classes available for adults.  There are two Hip-Hop, an intermediate and a more advanced Adult Tap, and a Body Conditioning class available.

Dance Examinations

Pupils at Danceworks have the opportunity of taking ISTD examinations if the required standard has been attained.  Although these are not compulsory, it is a wonderful reward for the months of hard work involved at achieving the standards required.  All children entered for exams are expected to attend extra coaching classes in the lead up to their examinations.

All pupils are required to wear the correct uniform for their classes with hair neatly tied up. Details of uniform can be found in “Uniform”.
